About Us

The Full Story

The family farm was acquired by our grandparents, Thelma and Glen Brown, in 1937, where they engaged in agricultural practices and raised a family with two sons, Gary and Harold Brown. This farm has witnessed the cultivation of cotton and corn, utilizing mule-drawn equipment and grist mill operations, progressing to the eventual establishment of the lake.

In 1961, Weiss Lake was created, resulting in the flooding of a significant portion of the farmland, thereby transforming the landscape and creating new opportunities for income and family recreation. Since the lake's inception, the family property has consistently welcomed numerous visitors and tenants. Family adventures have grown to include fishing and water skiing, passing these new traditions down to our children.

Presently, with a new generation poised to uphold the Brown legacy on Weiss Lake, the farm manifests a refreshed appearance. The Retreat RV & Campground at Weiss Lake was established in 2025 with the dreams of attracting more visitors to the area, enabling them to enjoy the abundance of lake life and the multitude of local amenities. Even though the campground is not directly on the water, it gives visitors the ability to relax without the boat traffic noise and enjoy the peace of nature.
